Uneven rain patterns across the state have given farmers trouble in the past week or so, the latest crop report from Wisconsin Agricultural Statistical Service says. In southern counties, rain and humidity slowed the hay harvest and caused uneven crop growth. Corn was showing better color, except where it has remained too wet for too long. In northern counties, dry weather has hurt corn growth and reduced hay yields. Statewide, average corn height was reported at 60 inches, compared with 74 inches a year ago and 65 inches for the five-year average. Only about 33% of soybeans were blooming, compared with 67% a year ago and 46% for the five-year average.
