Most major Wisconsin highways — including Interstates — that were closed during the recent floods are now open for Fourth of July holiday travelers.
An up-to-date list and map of road closures on major Wisconsin highways are available on the WisDOT Web site at www.dot.wisconsin.gov (click on Incident Alerts) or by calling 1-800-ROAD-WIS.
For a safe Fourth of July, the Wisconsin State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies remind motorists to obey speed limits, stay alert, eliminate distractions, and avoid tailgating especially when encountering heavy traffic or work zones where unexpected slowdowns or stoppages often occur.
“We also can’t emphasize enough that you should always wear your safety belt no matter how long or short your trip is, and you should never drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs,” says Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent David Collins.
To save lives and prevent serious injuries from traffic crashes, an array of law enforcement agencies will mobilize during the holiday period for the Summer Heat speed enforcement project on U.S. 41 from Menomonee Falls to Marinette County and on Interstate 94 from Eau Claire County to the Minnesota border.

Marquette Interchange in downtown Milwaukee: Various lane and ramp closures. For details go to www.mchange.org.
Wisconsin 100 and U.S. 45 in Milwaukee County from Loomis Road (Wisconsin 36) to College Avenue, 2.7 miles. Loomis Road to Drexel Road is open to two-way through traffic. During daylight hours, one lane will be closed to traffic. Drexel Road to Rawson Avenue has a minimum of a 12-foot lane in each direction open to traffic at all times while work is taking place in closed lanes. Rawson Avenue to College Avenue has two lanes of traffic in each direction during peak hours. One lane of through traffic is maintained in each direction during non-peak hours.
Wisconsin 181 (North 76th Street) in Milwaukee County from Clinton Avenue to West County Line Road, 2.6 miles. Wisconsin 181 will remain open to through traffic along the length of the project. During the reconstruction of North 76th Street lanes, northbound and southbound traffic is routed in the existing southbound North 76th Street lanes. There are two lanes of traffic northbound and southbound from Clinton Avenue to Tower Road along North 76th Street. From Tower Road to Brown Deer Road, there are two northbound lanes and one southbound lane of traffic along North 76th Street. From Brown Deer Road to West County Line Road, there is one lane for both northbound and southbound traffic along North 76th Street. There is no access from North 76th Street to North 76th Place. All access to North 76th Place must be made from Brown Deer Road. Brown Deer Road also has lane closures at the intersection with North 76th Street.
Wisconsin 11 Burlington bypass project in Racine County: Traffic is detoured onto Wisconsin 75 and Wisconsin 142.
I–94 intersection with Calhoun Road in Waukesha County, 0.2 miles. Traffic is restricted on eastbound I–94 to three 11-foot lanes.
Wisconsin 16 between Concord Road and Sheldon Road in Waukesha County, 1.2 miles. Traffic detours through either the Oconomowoc Bypass or local city streets. U.S. 18 (Bluemound Road) in Waukesha County from Barker Road intersection to Moorland Road intersection, 3 miles. The lane adjacent to the median in each direction is closed in one-mile sections. Detailed information is available at http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/projects/us18bluemound/index.htm
U.S. 18 at Waukesha County JJ bridges over I–94: County JJ is restricted to one lane in each direction. The westbound I–94 off-ramp to U.S. 18 westbound is closed.
I–43 interchange and Moorland Road in Waukesha County, 1.7 miles. I–43 has two lanes open in each direction. Moorland Road has one lane open in each direction.
Wisconsin 175 (Appleton Avenue) between Lily Road and U.S. 45 ramps in Waukesha County, 1.9 miles. Truck detour is established around project.
U.S. 12 between Lake Delton and Baraboo. U.S. 12 will be open during the holiday weekend. However, delays make occur near intersections of Wisconsin 33 and North Reedsburg Road due to temporary traffic signals.
Wisconsin 33 between Interstate 39 and Portage, closed due to flood damage.
U.S. 10 (Eighth Street) in Manitowoc between Madison and Washington streets, 0.3 miles. Detour is on city streets. This project affects the U.S. 10 route that leads to and from the Lake Michigan car ferry.
Wisconsin 76 in Outagamie County between Wisconsin 54 and U.S. 45, 12.5 miles. Highway is closed for bridge repairs and replacement. Detour via Wisconsin 54, U.S. 45 and Wisconsin 76
Wisconsin 96 in Outagamie County between Wisconsin 76 and Casaloma Drive, 3 miles. The two-lane road is being widened to a four-lane roadway. Traffic is maintained through the work zone, but restricted to 11-foot lanes in the work zones.
Wisconsin 96 between U.S. 41 and Outagamie County A, 2.0 miles. Traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction.
U.S. 45 between Wisconsin 116 and Winchester, 4.5 miles. Traffic is detoured to U.S. 41, Wisconsin 76, and U.S. 10. U.S. 45 is open through the U.S. 45 and Winnebago County T Interchange but closed about 5 miles north at Wisconsin 116.
U.S. 41 in Fond du Lac: Highway is open with two lanes in each direction but widths are reduced to 11 feet in each direction.
I–39/U.S. 51/Business 51 interchange in Stevens Point: Bridge surface replacement with northbound ramps closed. Traffic is detoured via I–39, U.S. 10, and Business 51.
I–39/U.S. 51 Kowalski Road overpass in Marathon County, 0.3 miles. Bridge reconstruction with northbound and southbound shoulder closures on I–39/U.S. 51.
U.S. 51/Wisconsin 29 in Wausau, 8 miles. Two lanes open in each direction through the work zone. Detailed information is available at www.5129wausau.com
U.S. 51 from U.S. 8 to Rocky Run Road in Oneida County: 6 miles. Traffic is on a temporary roadway with lane width restricted to 12 feet in each direction. Speed limit is 45 mph.
Wisconsin 13 in Abbotsford, Marathon County: Open to through traffic from Linden to Pine streets with 10-foot width restriction in each lane. Business 29 between North First Street and Fifth Street is also restricted to one-lane in each direction.
Wisconsin 22 between River Bank Road and Spruce Road in Shawano County: Bridge replacement with traffic detoured via Wisconsin 156, Shawano County K, and Wisconsin 29.
U.S. 10 in Wood County: Bridge replacement near intersection with Wood County B. Traffic is detoured via Wisconsin 73 and Wisconsin 13. Intersection with County B south is closed. Intersection with County B north is open to local traffic.
Wisconsin 13 in Adams County, 3.4 miles. Remains open to traffic from Adams County O to County D but with a 9-foot width restriction.
Wisconsin 22/54 in Waupaca, 0.36 miles. One lane of traffic is open at all times between Godfrey Drive and Royalton Street during construction of a roundabout. Motorists may encounter 11-foot width restrictions.
U.S. 10 and Wisconsin 34 in Portage County, 4.5 miles. Wisconsin 34 is restricted to one lane in each direction with 12-foot width restrictions. Until July 3, existing U.S. 10 has a 12-foot width restriction at the intersection with Wisconsin 34 north.
Wisconsin 13 between Washburn and Bayfield at Thompson Creek and Onion River: Traffic is reduced to one lane in the area of the bridge reconstruction projects.
Wisconsin 27/70 between Radisson and Ojibwa in Sawyer County: Traffic is detoured along either a truck detour route via Wisconsin 40 south and U.S. 8 east to Wisconsin 27 north to Wisconsin 70 at Ojibwa or an automobile-light truck detour via Ogden Ave in Radisson, Old Highway 70 east to Wisconsin 27 north to Wisconsin 70 east.
U.S. 53 between Chippewa River and Bloomer (4 miles south of Bloomer): Bridge work reduces traffic to one lane in each direction.
Wisconsin 29 eastbound bridge over U.S. 53: Bridge work reduces eastbound (only) traffic to one lane over U.S. 53.
U.S. 12 (Clairemont Avenue) in Eau Claire from Craig Road to London Road. All traffic is traveling on the eastbound lanes with a width restriction of 10 feet.
