If you’re on 43 or 172, you’ll be on camera

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northeast Region office at Green Bay is announcing traffic cameras are being installed at locations on Wisconsin 172 and Interstate 43 beginning Monday.

The $1.6 million project will be completed by December.

“These cameras are going to help us monitor real time traffic issues in the Green Bay area,” said DOT Northeast Regional Director Mike Berg.

The cameras are being installed on 172 at U.S. 41, Ashland Avenue, Riverside Drive, Bellevue Street and I–43, as well as on I–43 at Webster Avenue and Atkinson Drive. The cameras will be monitored by the Statewide Traffic Operations Center in Milwaukee, the State Patrol in Fond du Lac and the DOT Northeast Region office in Green Bay.

Local media is being allowed to access these cameras and citizens will be able to access them on WisDOT’s Web site.

There are also plans to expand this network of traffic cameras when U.S. 41 is expanded in Brown and Winnebago counties beginning late next year.

Traffic impacts during installation will be minimal. There could be some occasional ramp and shoulder closures.
