In their third monthly meeting before the start of the College Avenue bridge project, slated to begin on Monday, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced the tentative schedule for the project:
Bridge closes to traffic Monday morning.
City of Appleton begins utility work between Rankin Street and west end of bridge.
Crews remove bridge lighting and wiring.
Week of Aug. 18
One crew from Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. of Plain, primary contractor for the project, will begin removing existing bridge deck beginning with the center. Another crew will be added the following week and work will proceed towards both ends.
A majority of the bridge and support piers should be removed in the first two months.
Late August
Begin construction of a causeway to provide constructions crews access road from the east side. The causeway will include two to three temporary bridge spans across the navigation channel and seven to eight temporary spans across the Fox River.
Late September
Begin construction of new support piers. Construction of each pier will take two to three months.
Initial focus will be on constructing river piers.
Begin construction of new slopes on the west bank of the Fox River and construct west bank abutment.
Early October
Begin construction of new slopes on east end of bridge and construct retaining wall along Banta Court.
Begin construction of east bridge abutment in late November.
March 2009
Begin setting new bridge girders on spans one through five.
Begin construction of new Banta Court Bridge.
November 2009
Project is scheduled for completion.
