Sturgeon Bay bridge work continues this week

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is scheduled to pour the concrete for the new Maple Street-to-Oregon Street bridge in Sturgeon Bay this week.

The bridge project doesn't affect vehicular traffic, but it does affect ship canal traffic. Through Wednesday at 3 p.m., the east leaf will be constructed and the west leaf will be open, limiting the width of vessels that can pass. Between Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Thursday at noon, both the east and west leaves will be down limiting the width and height of vessels that can pass.

From Thursday at noon until June 16, the east leaf will be constructed and the west leaf will be open. On June 16 and 17, both the east and west leaves will be down. On June 17 at 4 p.m. east leaf construction will continue and the west leaf will be in the up position. Both leaves are planned to be in the up position and the entire channel open by the afternoon of Wednesday, June 18.

The new bridge is part of the $32 million project that includes the rehabilitation of the Michigan Street bridge in downtown Sturgeon Bay. That project will begin once the new bridge is complete.

The DOT is evaluating the possibility of operating the Michigan Street and Maple-to-Oregon Street bridges, and possibly the Wisconsin 42–57 Bayview Bridge from one location, most likely from the Maple-to-Oregon Street bridge site. The new bridge will be designed to accommodate remote operations of the Michigan Street bridge.

Part of Business 42/57 (Third Avenue) in Sturgeon Bay will be closed this week for paving between Oregon Street and Jefferson Street. Once paving is complete, the Third Avenue–Michigan Street and Third Avenue–Jefferson Street intersections will be open. Work also continues on the $13.5 million Wisconsin 57 four-lane project between Dyckesville and Door County H north of Brussels.

In Neenah, the South Commercial Street project between South Park Avenue and Lyon Drive is scheduled to begin Friday. South Commercial Street will be closed between South Park Avenue and Lyon Drive. The detour will be Winnebago County G west from South Commercial Street to Schultz Drive, Enterprise Drive, Industrial Drive and Bell Street east to South Commercial Street.

In Fond du Lac, the Park Avenue–Sixth Street intersection will be closed this week as part of the U.S. 45 (Sixth Street) reconstruction project. Sixth Street is closed until October.

In Grand Chute, Mayflower Drive south of Wisconsin 96 (Wisconsin Avenue) will be closed this week as part of the Wisconsin Avenue project between U.S. 41 and Wisconsin 76. The east Wisconsin Avenue project, between 41 and Lynndale Drive, has lane restrictions on Wisconsin through the project and on Westhill Boulevard and Bluemound Drive through this week.

One area project is complete — the Moede Lane bridge east of Wisconsin 54 in Algoma.
