The #1 NFL team of all time is …

A pro football Web site has named the Green Bay Packers the top National Football League franchise of all time.

ColdHardFootballFacts.com named the Packers the top NFL franchise based on a formula of Misery-to-Joy Fan Relativity, “the amount of misery a franchise has forced upon its fans against the amount of celebratory games, moments and titles a franchise has gifted upon its fans,” according to their Web site.

Coming into the 2008 season, the Packers have won 12 NFL championships, most of all NFL teams, and have the fifth best win percentage of all time (.557). The Packers are the only NFL team to have won three consecutive NFL championships. They had one losing season in their first 27 seasons of existence, and they’ve had one losing season and one .500 season since 1992.

The Web site says the greatest Packer attribute is “that they’re the last vestige of the small-town Midwestern roots of pro football. While the Dayton Triangles and Duluth Eskimos of the football world have been ground into dust, the Packers have persevered and excelled against all odds. In a sports world otherwise dominated by big egos with big dollars from big cities, teams from the Big Apple and the Big D have never been quite as good as the publicly owned non-profit club from little Green Bay.”

The rest of the top five are the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Giants, the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers. The Minnesota Vikings rank 15th, the Detroit Lions rank 24th, and the Chicago/St. Louis/Arizona Cardinals rank last.
